The Board of Education said In a July 23 email to the school community that PUSD Superintendent Jennifer Hawn was leaving Piedmont for a leadership role in another district. Her last day will be August 12.
Hawn was hired in 2023 after a tumultuous period of pandemic-related instability for the district. During her tenure, Hawn worked to stem declining enrollment by leaning in to inter-district transfers, expanded high school curriculum offerings, oversaw an effort to limit cell phone use on school campuses, and weathered difficult labor negotiations with the teachers union.
When Dr. Hawn arrived three years ago, she stepped into a demanding role during a period of significant change. Over her tenure, she led with high standards, genuine care for students, and a steady focus on strengthening our schools. What stands out most is the breadth of what she helped our district achieve, which is material progress across every one of our strategic priorities.
Thanks in large part to the work listed below, PUSD is in a strong and stable position today. The Board is committed to a thoughtful, transparent transition, and we will share more about next steps in the coming weeks.
