City says Piedmont Community Pool to open April 11

City of Piedmont

Competition/lap pool

Piedmont’s new community pool will open on Saturday, April 11, the city said in a press release on Friday. It said the city will offer a discounted drop-in rate through April 30, providing all community members a lower-cost chance to see the facility and try out the pools before summer passes go on sale.

The April 11 opening marks the start of a ramp-up period, the city said. Hours and programming will expand steadily in the weeks that follow as programs come online.

Preparing for opening day

City staff are moving into the facility this week and have held multiple on-site trainings for lifeguards, swim instructors, and other front-line staff since a temporary certificate of occupancy was issued on Friday, Feb. 6.

Between now and opening day, staff will be working on-site full time to prepare for day-to-day operations, continue learning the facility’s systems, and complete operational, safety, and  emergency response training for front-line staff.

Now hiring: lifeguards and swim instructors needed

The Recreation Department is continuing to recruit staff for the new pool. Lifeguards and swim instructors are the positions most in need. Both roles offer flexible schedules, with opportunities ranging from 5 to 20 hours per week.

Lifeguard positions start at $19.50/hour and require certification. Strong swimmers not yet certified as lifeguards are encouraged to apply for swim instructor positions, which start at $18/hour and make a good stepping stone to lifeguard roles in the future.
