Ace Hardware on Grand Avenue hit for cash, tools

At least two suspects broke into the Ace Hardware on Grand Avenue on Nov. 23, allegedly taking cash, credit cards and tools.

The forced entry happened from 6:17 a.m. – 6:27 a.m. When Piedmont Police arrived, the suspects fled in a gray 2023 Toyota Tacoma and a silver SUV similar to a 2017 Toyota Highlander, according to Piedmont Police Captain Chris Monahan. He said the Tacoma was an unreported stolen vehicle out of San Leandro and that San Leandro Police notified Piedmont Police that the vehicle was recovered around 12 noon.

The store owner reported that $10,000 worth of tools, $3,000 in cash and three credit cards were taken and that approximately $3,000 in damage was done to the store. Captain Monahan said video footage was taken and the investigation is ongoing.

A silver 2014 BMW X3 was taken from in front of a residence on Monte Avenue on Nov. 28. The report came in at 7:28 p.m.

Captain Monahan had no updates on the Cybertruck accident that took the lives of three Piedmont High School graduates from the Class of 2023.
