Kay Sibal, PHS ’18 is no stranger to the stage. She’s deployed her bubbly personality and vocal chops into a wide range of musical showcases since graduating with a degree in Musical Theater from UCLA in 2022.

On Monday night, in a nationwide broadcast, she grabbed the attention of three celebrity judges on NBC’s popular musical showcase “The Voice” with a rendition of “From the Start” by Laufey. Singer Michael Buble, pop star Gwen Stefani, and rapper Snoop Dogg all vied to have her on their team — she ultimately chose “Team Gwen.” The season will continue with the coaches mentoring and showcasing their team of singers through a series of vocal challenges. At the end of the competition, one artist will be named “The Voice” and receive the grand prize of a recording contract.

Sibal’s two brothers, Justin and Kevin, were in the audience to support her. Sibal told the judges that her performance was fueled by thoughts of her father, who died exactly three years ago.

As a student in Piedmont, Sibal was a longtime member of the Piedmont East Bay Children’s Choir and performed with the Youth Musical Theater Company and in PHS acting and musical productions. In 2016, she and fellow PHS grad Maya Guzdar won the annual PHS Birdcalling Contest.
