Students head back to school

Back-to-school joy on the Beach blacktop on Monday, August 12.

Piedmont’s streets came alive again on Monday morning as students from transitional Kindergarten (TK) to 12th grade made their way back to the classrooms for the first day of school. Piedmont’s annual walk-through registration — where middle and high school students get their schedules, books, and take care of other administrative tasks — was Friday.

The school district lost several key administrators last spring but managed to fill the positions before the end of the year. Joining Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Hawn and Assistant Superintendent Ariel Dolowich this year are:

  • Jean Fagin – Director of Special Education
  • Tyler Small – Director of Athletics
  • Jamie Van Kleeck – Assistant Principal of Piedmont Middle School
  • Dr. David Yoshihara – Principal of Piedmont High School

It will be a busy fall for the district: Witter Field is set to reopen this week after almost a year of construction, setting the stage for the return of home football games. And on November 5, Piedmonters will vote for new school board members and on an important parcel tax ballot measure.
