Handgun and magazine found in July 24 arrest at Ace Hardware.

Earlier today,July 23, 2024, Piedmont Dispatch received an ALPR alert and advised officers of a felony vehicle entering the city that was involved in an assault with a deadly weapon in Oakland. Officers swiftly responded and located the vehicle parked in the lot at Grand Lake Ace Hardware. Officers detained the two occupants of the vehicle and a search revealed a Glock 19 9mm handgun with an illegal 24-round high-capacity magazine. The suspects were transported to Oakland PD and were later booked into Santa Rita Jail on multiple charges.

On July 18, an armed robbery was reported on Magnolia Avenue. The incident took place at 3:06 p.m. According to a report posted on the Piedmont Police Facebook page, three Black males approached the alleged victim and demanded his wallet and his watch. The suspects took the victim’s watch.

The suspect vehicle was a silver Jeep Grand Cherokee and was recovered the next day and one person was arrested. The investigation is ongoing, according to Piedmont Police Department Captain Chris Monahan. The three original suspects were described as wearing black masks and armed with one pistol and two “AR-15-style rifles,” according to Captain Monahan.


A white 2008 Chevrolet Express van was stolen from in front of a residence on Ronada Avenue on July 12. The incident happened at 2:39 p.m. The victim was loading approximately $6,000 worth of tools into the van and had left the keys in the van, according to Captain Monahan. He said an unknown suspect stole the van and an unknown suspect in a blue Honda Accord followed the van up Moraga Avenue towards Highway 13. He added that the blue Honda had been reported stolen out of Emeryville.


On July 17, two suspects described as Black juveniles entered the Ace Hardware store on Grand Avenue at 5:44 p.m. They allegedly stole $50 worth of tools, and fled the scene in a silver 2007 BMW 335i and a silver 2012 Mercedes-Benz, according to Captain Monahan.


A stolen silver Chevrolet Camaro was recovered on July 16 on Fairmont Avenue. A Piedmont police officer saw the vehicle parked at 2:25 p.m. with multiple individuals nearby and recognized the vehicle from a previous alert. The officer turned on his lights and the individuals fled on foot, according to Captain Monahan.


Another stolen vehicle was recovered July 14 when a Piedmont Police officer found a parked black Honda Odyssey on Kempton Avenue at 3:05 p.m. The officer recognized the vehicle from an Oakland Police call the day before. The vehicle had been stolen out of Alameda.


On July 15, a white 2019 Lexus ES300h was stolen from Bellevue Avenue. The victim told police he had not given anyone permission to take the vehicle, according to Captain Monahan.


An assault was reported on July 15 on Guilford Road at 12:44 p.m. A male victim reported a female suspect for battery and wanted to press charges, according to Captain Monahan. He said the suspect was cited and released and the victim did not need medical treatment.


On July 18, an officer observed a 2006 Pontiac Vibe driving near Broadway and Pleasant Valley Avenue at 12:04 a.m. The officer reported the vehicle was traveling below speed limit and was swerving, according to Captain Monahan.

The driver was pulled over and the officer said he showed signs of intoxication. Field sobriety tests were administered followed by preliminary alcohol screenings with results of 0.136 and 0.138 percent blood alcohol level. The driver was arrested for DUI and taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.
