The California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) named Piedmont High School alum Jojo Murphy to its First Team All-CCAA and selected him as the conference’s 2022-2023 Freshman of the Year. Murphy helped lead PHS to its first North Coast Section title in 2020, as well as earning co-Most Valuable Player honors in the West Alameda County Conference Foothill League in 2022.

Murphy is the first Wildcat in over 20 years to be named CCAA Freshman of the Year. Chico State’s Will Bonner was named the conference’s outstanding freshman player in 2001–02.

Murphy is Chico State’s leading scorer and ranks seventh among CCAA players with a 15.7 points per game average, while his team-high 52 3-point field goals were the seventh-most in the conference. Murphy scored at least 30 points in five games in 2022–23, highlighted by a 33-point, six 3-pointer outing January 14 against Cal State San Bernardino. He was named the CCAA Player of the Week December 5–11, 2022.
