City extends nomination period for open Board of Education seats

On Friday, Aug. 12, the city issued a statement saying it has extended the nomination period for the Board of Education until Wednesday, Aug. 17, at 5 p.m.

Currently, four candidates have taken out nomination papers for the school board but only one has qualified for the ballot. The original deadline for submitting all paperwork was Aug. 12 at 5 p.m. The four prospective candidates are: Lindsay Thomasson (qualified on Aug. 12), Avnish Patel (took nomination papers out on Aug. 4), Ruchi Medhekar (took nomination papers on Aug. 4), and Shirley Hooi (took nomination papers on Aug. 12).

The nomination period for seats on the city council has closed. Five candidates have qualified to appear on the November ballot. They are: Betsy Smegal Andersen, Sunny Bostrom-Fleming*, Jennifer Long, Bridget McInerney Harris, Jeanne Solnordal, and Tom Ramsey. (Avnish Patel did not return paperwork prior to the deadline.)

The Nomination Period for the two seats on the Board of Education which are up for election at the November 8, 2022 General Municipal Election has been extended to Wednesday, August 17th, due to incumbent Megan Pillsbury not seeking re-election. The nomination period for seats on the City Council has closed.

Currently, four candidates have taken out nomination papers for Board of Education and one has qualified for the ballot. The complete list of candidates for both City Council and Board of Education can be viewed on the 2022 Candidate List page.

Residents interested in taking out nomination papers for Board of Education should contact the City Clerk’s Office at (510) 420-3040 as soon as possible to set up an appointment to be issued papers. The California Elections Code requires that nomination papers be issued in person to the prospective candidate at City Hall. The process of issuing nomination papers takes approximately one hour. The extended deadline for submitting completed nomination papers for Board of Education only is 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 17th.   1. We now have two exceptional and experienced candidates who have qualified for the ballot! They are parents of current PUSD students and have served as parent club presidents amongst a host of other volunteer roles. PUSD would be great hands with Lindsay Thomasson & Rushi Shrivastava Medhekar on the board.
