In an email to the school community on Friday, Sept. 17, PUSD shared an update on its diversity, equity, and inclusion work, including the news that Dharini Rasiah, who was appointed to serve as the Director of DEI last spring, has resigned her role.
From the Piedmont Ahead email:
“The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Council members have met twice since the start of the school year. The DEI Council consists of representatives from PUSD certificated & classified staff, District administrators, high school organizations and clubs, community organizations and the Board of Education. The Council is an advisory body to the Superintendent and Board and provides input on the implementation of the Racial Equity Board Policy/Administrative Regulation and the Educational Equity Board Policy that were passed by the Board in September 2020. Regular updates on DEI work at the site and District level will be presented at Board meetings.
In April 2021, Ms. Dharini Rasiah was appointed by the Board to serve as PUSD’s Director of DEI. Unfortunately, due to personal reasons, Ms. Rasiah was unable to continue in the position. She shared how happy she was to work for the Piedmont community and her regret for leaving the District so early into her new role. PUSD is grateful for her many contributions related to the planning for the launch of the DEI Council. The Director of DEI position for the 2021-22 school year has been posted and the District hopes to fill the position as soon as possible.”
