If you’re over the age of 60, or have a health risk, and you’re looking to avoid crowds when stocking up, you might want to take advantage of the designated senior hours at the local grocery stores. The set hours are for senior citizens (60 and in some cases 65 and older), and other at-risk members of the community such as pregnant women or those with compromised immune systems.
- Piedmont Grocery: 9:00-10:00 AM | Every day (note: they are closed Thursdays)
- Market Hall: 9:00-9:30 AM | Monday-Friday (for 65+ years old)
- Trader Joe’s: 8:00-9:00 AM | Every day (featuring ‘oldies but goodies’ music playing for the hour, with customers having a wonderful time, smiling and moving to the beat)
- Safeway (Rockridge, Grand Ave and Montclair): 7:00-9:00 AM | Tuesday & Thursday
- Costco: 8:00-9:00 AM | Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
- Berkeley Bowl West: 8:00-10:00 AM | Monday, Wednesday, Friday
