Do you know of a local business that has been hit hard by the shutdown or will need community support to survive? Let us know and we’ll highlight them in the Exedra.
An unexpected but delightful surprise landed on the doorsteps of some Piedmont homes this weekend as one local flower shop scrambled to make the most of perishable inventory in the wake of the statewide shutdown.
Faced with a warehouse full of flowers, Oakland Flower Mart owner and Piedmont resident Lee Chin Phmah and her brothers decided that rather than have the orders go to waste, they would drop off flower bouquets for local residents.
Phmah and her family made a series of deliveries to random homes as they were able, given their limited manpower and hilly terrain. “My brothers and I are very apologetic because there is no way to distribute to every household,” Phmah told the Exedra on Tuesday. “Many of the flowers have now passed their prime. We really hope we all get through this crisis well. Stay home, stay healthy!”
Phmah was the subject of this Exedra profile last year:
It was such a nice surprise to open the door and find the flowers. It really brightened our day. Thank you very much for such a thoughtful gesture.
