New resident ruffles feathers on Pala Avenue

Owl in residence

Homeowners on Pala Avenue woke early Wednesday morning to a cacophony of crows expressing their displeasure with this regal, wide-eyed Great Horned Owl who has taken up residence in their favorite tree. Former Piedmont mayor and birder Valerie Matzger notes that many birds consider owls a threat to their nests and will try to drive them away. Residents report that the crows don’t seem to have any intention of letting up their verbal assault, still going strong Wednesday afternoon.

  1. Great photos! Thanks for this fun and interesting article. I enjoy hearing the owls in my neighborhood when I have coffee on the patio early in the morning.
