From the Piedmont Recreation Department’s July 14 newsletter
The Piedmont Recreation Department still has openings in the following camps to take you through the end of summer.
STEM
Origami Coding
July 20–24
1:00–4:00 pm
Ages 6–9
Discover the magic of our Origami Coding Camp! In this hands-on camp, young creators will fold colorful origami shapes and use them to design characters and scenes for their very own coding projects in OctoStudio or Scratch. As they play, build, and create, students naturally explore early math concepts like patterns, geometry, and problem-solving — all through fun, interactive projects. Our camp is different from traditional coding classes: we focus on joyful learning, curiosity, and creativity, helping kids build confidence and excitement about technology. No prior coding experience is needed — just imagination and enthusiasm! All skill levels are welcome!
COOKING:
Path to Panacea: Zero-Waste Cooking Camp Challenge
July 27–31
9:00 am–12:00 pm
Ages 10–16
Join us for a week of creative, sustainable cooking and baking as we take on the Zero-Waste Challenge! Campers will learn to cook carefully, craft resourcefully, and waste nothing by using all parts of a plant while upcycling ingredients into delicious dishes and eco-friendly creations. With fun challenges throughout the week, young chefs will develop their culinary skills while embracing sustainability, feeding their hunger for positive change, and creating meals that are as kind to the planet as they are delicious. New recipes for 2026!
CREATIVE ARTS:
Dragonfly Designs : Jewelry-Making Camp Design, Shine & Connect!
August 3–7
9:00 am–3:00 pm

Let children’s creativity sparkle! Campers will dive into the art of jewelry-making, starting with the basics, learning bead stringing, crimping, and creative pattern-making techniques. Each camper will create a personalized Art Journal to capture their designs and document new skills. With access to a vibrant selection of glass and crystal beads, campers will craft one-of-a-kind pieces to wear and share. Led by our warm and supportive instructors, this camp fosters a welcoming environment where new friendships bloom over shared creativity and teamwork. It’s all about making beautiful jewelry and lasting connections!
