Residents should receive their Lights Up Piedmont! brochures from the Piedmont Beautification Foundation (PBF) in mailboxes soon. In addition to announcing that this year’s Lights Up! ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3, in Piedmont Park, the brochure highlights the Main Park Swings Project as PBF’s fall’s primary campaign focus.
The City of Piedmont and the Piedmont Beautification Foundation (PBF) are partnering to install new swings in the Tot Lot in Piedmont Park’s main park. This project comes closely on the heels of their collaboration to do a spectacular renovation of the Linda Beach Tot Lot, to which PBF contributed $100,000.
Last year, the swings at the main park were removed for safety reasons, and Piedmont grandmothers, parents, and nannies have been lamenting their absence ever since. Swings bring a special kind of joy to a tot lot, and PBF has agreed to raise funds to return this joy to the Main Park.
The redesigned swing area will feature:
* State-of-the-art materials for durability and safety
* Safety matting to replace the existing sand
* An expanded play area providing a secure perimeter for enthusiastic swing lovers
This year’s PBF brochure offers plenty of alternative opportunities for the community to support its ongoing work. Funds are still needed for the Sydney Dearing Memorial, and the “reforest Piedmont” project has become a long-term effort of great significance. PBF’s two endowment funds, the Sports Facilities Maintenance Endowment and its general Endowment, are both worthy of support.
Donors can return their gifts in the envelope accompanying the brochure or by visiting the PBF website.
