The Blotter | Pickup stolen out of SF recovered in Piedmont

Piedmont police arrested a suspect after pulling him over in a vehicle that was reported stolen out of San Francisco. The incident happened at 9:26 a.m. on Nov. 17. A 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck had no license plates, according to Piedmont Police Captain Chris Monahan. Police checked the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and found it had been reported stolen. The driver had a suspended driver’s license according to Captain Monahan.
The suspect was detained.

According to Captain Monahan, he “refused” to “completely sit” in the patrol vehicle after being told to by police. Captain Monahan then said the suspect requested medical attention. He said the fire department arrived on scene and the suspect refused to completely sit on the gurney. The suspect was eventually transported to Alta Bates
Summit Hospital in a police vehicle. Captain Monahan said he was medically cleared and taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.



A stolen vehicle was recovered on Nov. 16. Piedmont Police found a white Kia Optima parked on Santa Clara Avenue with no license plates. A VIN check showed the vehicle reported stolen out of Pleasant Hill, according to Captain Monahan. The vehicle was towed and reported in the police log as “damaged, not stripped.”


On Nov. 19, a resident woke up to the sound of a catalytic converter theft on Oakland Avenue. The report came in at 3:41 a.m. The caller reported the suspect vehicle was a silver Audi four-door sedan with a curly-haired male driving and a female passenger. According to the police log, the victim confirmed the catalytic converter was taken a few minutes later. The suspect vehicle was described as heading away on Oakland towards Interstate 580.
