White male suspect sought; no loss reported

A suspect is sought in the burglary of a house on Sunnyside Avenue. The adult male was described as being white with long hair and a white T-shirt.

The alleged crime occurred at 6:33 a.m. on August 25. The suspect entered an unlocked garage and rifled through an unlocked 2024 Toyota RAV4 parked in the garage, according to Piedmont Police Department Captain Chris Monahan. The suspect departed on foot toward Oakland Avenue, according to the police log.

Captain Monahan said there was no loss.

Multiple stolen vehicles recovered during the week of Aug. 26

On August 26, a hit on the city’s Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system was recorded for a red 2015 Audi Q5 at 6:39 p.m. The vehicle had been reported stolen out of Oakland.

Piedmont Police located the vehicle parked on Santa Rosa Avenue in Oakland, according to Captain Monahan. The vehicle was identified and towed.


Also on August 26, police saw an unoccupied 2001 Toyota Tacoma with no license plates parked in a red zone, according to Captain Monahan. The vehicle had been reported stolen out of Oakland and was towed.


On August 27, police found a parked Audi Q5 on Fairmount Avenue at 12:36 p.m., according to Captain Monahan. He said the Vehicle Identification numbers inside the doors were damaged on on the dashboard and removed on the passenger side. A check on the engine bay found the VIN and confirmed the vehicle had been stolen out of San Jose. The vehicle was towed.


A white 2005 Chevrolet Suburban was reported stolen on Richardson Way on August 29. The vehicle was reported taken between 6 p.m. on August 28 and 10:36 a.m. on August 29. The loss is valued at $15,000 according to Captain Monahan.

Accident leads to DUI arrest; driver had BAL over 0.2 percent, per police

A man was arrested for suspicion of DUI after being involved in an accident on August 18.

The accident was reported at 11:11 p.m. Piedmont Police arrived to Grand Avenue to find a gray Hyundai Sonata that had hit the center island, according to Piedmont Police Department Captain Chris Monahan.

The officer smelled alcohol and reported the driver’s eyes were watery and that he had an unsteady gait, according to Captain Monahan. He said preliminary alcohol screening tests produced results of 0.205 and 0.221 percent.

The driver was taken to Highland Hospital where he was subjected to a Chemical Alcohol Test. He was cited for DUI and released to the medical staff at the hospital for treatment.

Collision at Oakland and Hillside

At 1:23 p.m. on August 18, two vehicles were involved in an accident at the Oakland and Hillside avenues intersection. One vehicle was traveling west on Oakland and the other was traveling east. According to Captain Monahan, the vehicle traveling east had the right of way on the green light and the vehicle traveling west attempted to make a southbound turn. The eastbound vehicle collided with the front passenger side of the vehicle making the turn.
