Map to Piedmont’s commemorative benches

PBF

This bench in Hall Fenway honors Marolyn and Paul Stanley. It's an example of the 175 benches located throughout Piedmont.

The Piedmont Beautification Foundation is pleased to announce that a new map showing the location of each commemorative bench is now available to the public. PBF has currently placed 175 benches in parks and public spaces throughout Piedmont.

Commemorating loved ones, living or deceased, with a bench has long been a PBF project. Each bench bears a plaque naming the person or persons being remembered, often accompanied by a few words reflecting their lives or the sentiments of those who dedicated the bench. Over the years, these lasting tributes have become an important part of our community.

The new map is the result of an impressive Eagle Scout project undertaken by Sean McKee while he was a student at Piedmont High School. Sean has graduated from PHS and is now a first-year student at Whitman College in Washington, majoring in geology. Given the sizeable number of benches involved and their dispersal throughout
Piedmont, mapping and photographing them this was no small feat. When asked, Sean said his only help came from his parents and Ms. Kobal, his Eagle advisor. PBF is very grateful to Sean for his initiative and his work on the project and thrilled with him earning the rank of Eagle Scout.

With 175 benches now in place, the program is temporarily pausing new installations while the city evaluates possible locations for more benches. People interested in purchasing a bench can visit the PBF website to express their interest. PBF’s hope is that new locations will be found in the near future.

In the meantime, there are plenty of trees available to become tributes through PBF’s Commemorative Tree Program. People interested in this alternative opportunity are also encouraged to visit the PBF website.
