Oakland Roots SC will play its last soccer match at the Oakland Coliseum Saturday after two seasons of calling the stadium home.
The professional soccer team announced it was leaving in July, citing limitations around event control, match day flexibility, fan experience and operating costs.
The match against San Antonio FC is scheduled for 7 p.m. and team officials said fans can also expect a fireworks show, live music and “local icons,” among other things.
The Roots moved from their previous home at California State University East Bay in Hayward to the Coliseum for the 2025 season, after the former Oakland Athletics baseball team left the stadium for a new home in West Sacramento.
It’s unclear where the Roots will play next season.
While Saturday’s game is the last scheduled at the Coliseum, the club still has two away matches to end the season versus FC Tulsa and Sacramento Republic FC.
A member of the USL Championship league, the Roots are currently in ninth place in the Western Conference with 8 wins, 9 losses and 10 draws.
