Edie Elmquist threw for 113 yards and three touchdowns and Agatha Filha Gama intercepted two passes and returned one for a touchdown as Piedmont High School’s girls football team routed American at Witter Field on Oct. 1, 53-6.
The Highlanders are now 7-8 heading into a game at Tennyson on Oct. 6.
Piedmont jumped in front in the first quarter when Elmquist hit Cea’naiya Alexander for a 51-yard scoring pass. On the Eagles’ next possession, Filha Gama stepped into a pass by Amani Moyeen and took it 19 yards to the house.
Early in the second quarter, Elmquist found Sydney Latvala for an 11-yard touchdown pass.
Rebecca Reyes completed a two-yard scoring pass to Jordam-mai Arnst for the only American touchdown. However, the Highlanders answered with a nine-play, 66-yard drive to an Elmquist scramble for an eight-yard touchdown. Elmquist had 30 yards on three carries on the night.
Elmquist’s third touchdown pass came on a 17-yard toss to Skye Prata in the third quarter. Filha Gama scored on a 24-yard run in the third quarter. She fiinished with 107 yards rushing on eight carries.
Zoya Schulze ran for 69 yards and two touchdowns for Piedmont. The Highlanders piled up 342 yards in total offense to 180 for the Eagles.
Carmela Dilauro had eight tackles with three for loss including a sack to help lead the defense.
On Sept. 22, Piedmont lost 28-0 at Bishop O’Dowd. The Highlanders rebounded on Sept. 24 with an 18-6 win at home over Mt. Eden. On Sept. 29, they lost a tight one 14-7 at San Leandro.
