Is there anything more vital to civilization than a good cup of coffee and a fresh sandwich?
Probably. But that doesn’t take away from the good news that Yellow Door, the popular Montclair cafe has announced plans to expand.
Opened in 2020 by Piedmonters Beth Barrett and Virginia Davis, Yellow Door has built a faithful following for its breakfast and lunch fare, including pastries, salads, soups and sandwiches, all done with a healthy spin, and of course its tasty cups of java.
Around the same time that Yellow Door was celebrating its 6th birthday last summer, an adjoining storefront on their Moraga Ave location became available. All 1600 sq feet of it. As Beth Barrett recounts it, “at first we thought that was fine. But then we both had a change of heart. We realized if we don’t take it, somebody else will.”
The addition, now under construction, more than doubles Yellow Door’s current cozy 1200 sq feet and affords them the space to redo and expand their kitchen, hire more bakers and baristas, add new seating, expand their menu offerings, and the biggest change of all – increase their days open from five per week to seven.
While Yellow Door remains open during construction, the expansion is expected to be completed sometime in October 2026. Of course, that final date will depend on the fickle realities of construction, so be sure to check the website. In the meantime, the finished new store will have two Yellow Doors, so grabbing your breakfast sandwich or oven roasted turkey should be just as easy as before.
