After tow, found to be stolen
A red Honda Accord was found running in the street on Kingston Avenue near Greenbank Avenue early in the morning hours of Aug. 27. The report came in at 2:53 a.m. The vehicle had the keys inside.
An initial records check came back clear but after the vehicle was towed, it turned out it had been reported stolen in Berkeley, according to Piedmont Police Capt. Chris Monahan.
The registered owner was instructed to file a report with the Berkeley Police Department.
A person was bitten by a dog at a birthday party on Aug. 21 at a residence on Wildwood Avenue. According to Monahan, the dog entered a bedroom where the friends were “hanging out and doing their makeup.” The dog bit the victim on the back of her right arm. Piedmont Fire responded and treated the victim at the scene and she then went to Highland Hospital. The dog was quarantined and an investigation was started, according to Monahan.
An identity theft was reported on Aug. 23. The victim said the charges were a total of $4,000, according to the police log. A report was taken and contact was made with the bank.
Monahan said, “There is a lot of info online related to preventing this and we have a flyer in the lobby too. It is so important to be protective of your information. It is always worth considering so of the companies that do data protection.
“Never send money anywhere you don’t approve of, monitor accounts, change passwords regularly.”
A vehicle was stolen from Oakmont Avenue between the hours of 5 p.m. on Aug. 24 and 6 a.m. Aug. 25. The vehicle is a grey 2016 Toyota Highlander SUV.
A threat was reported from Cambridge Way at 5:49 p.m. on Aug. 25, according to the police log. One neighbor reported an abandoned automobile, according to the log, and after confirming to the neighbor they made the call, the reporting person said the neighbor threatened them.
Police responded. Monahan said it was “an ongoing parking dispute between neighbors.”
On Aug. 28, an auto burglary was reported at Oakmont Avenue and Prospect Road. The victim reported the crime occurred between 7 p.m. the night before and 8:40 a.m. that day. The reported damages were $456, according to Monahan, and an owner’s manual was removed from the vehicle.
