Eight honorees to be inducted at ceremony on April 24, 2027
The Piedmont Sports Hall of Fame today announced its Class of 2027, an eight-member group of honorees whose achievements span the football field, the track, the pool, the tennis court, and beyond. The inductees will be formally recognized at the PSHOF’s induction ceremony on April 24, 2027, at the Alan Harvey Theater.
This year’s class includes standout athletes, a dedicated coach, a multi-category honoree and remarkable pioneers of women’s sports. Together, their combined legacies reflect decades of excellence, leadership, and service to Piedmont High School athletics.
The Piedmont Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2027 includes:
● Michael Hernandez (Class of 2012) — Lacrosse. Piedmont’s all-time scoring leader at the time he graduated, a Division I All-American at Michigan, and a professional and international player and coach.
● Steve Humphries (Class of 1985) — A triple-category inductee honored for more than 35 years as a player, coach, and tireless community volunteer.
● Melissa “Missy” Moore Berger (Class of 1983) — Track & Field. A state-level 800-meter runner whose Piedmont record has stood for nearly five decades.
● Doyle O’Regan — Teacher, Cross Country & Track Coach. A 22-year coaching leader who built one of the Bay Area’s most consistently competitive track programs and founder of the Annual Piedmont Turkey Trot.
● Nick Pacult (Class of 2016) — Football, Swimming, Basketball. Piedmont’s all-time leading tackler and a three-sport standout and league champion.
● Rebecca “Becky” Richter (Class of 1980) — Basketball, Softball, Volleyball. A 12-letter athlete and early pioneer of girls’ and women’s sports at Piedmont.
● Elizabeth “Betsy” Swan Diaz (Class of 1983) — Soccer, Softball, Volleyball. An 11-letter, three-sport captain who went on to a Division I soccer career, an engineering career at Apple, and elite marathon running.
● Kaelli Thiel (Class of 2016) — Tennis. A four-time league champion and Ivy League tennis standout recognized equally for scholarship and service.
The Piedmont Sports Hall of Fame (PSHOF) was established in 2003 by a group of citizens with a keen interest in the rich athletic history of Piedmont High School. The Hall of Fame was founded upon the principle that Piedmont High School athletes, coaches, administrators, boosters and community members who have made outstanding contributions to PHS athletics should be honored and enshrined.
