The Piedmont High School girls tennis team took two of three matches at the James Logan Tournament, then swept Albany on Sept. 14.
The Highlanders defeated Hayward at the James Logan Tournament, 6-1. Faith Chin beat Melissa Benitez Orellana at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Madelyn Huynh swept Audrey Olaes at No. 3, 6-0, 6-0. Ella Shafari came from behind against Daniyelle Louise Cayas at No. 4, 2-6, 6-4, 10-4.
In doubles, Amalia Angulo and Chiara Silvio defeated Samantha Galang and Lyvia Maloa at No. 1, 8-4. Ella Thomasson and Paige Chin downed Annabella Stansberry and Nina Tran at No. 2, 8-0. Penelope Welch and Katie Pham beat Kalynn Hamilton and Lily Ruiz at No. 3, 8-0.
The Highlanders beat Granada, taking four out of five matches played. The Matadors Anya Shajan beat Ruthven at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-4. Chin defeated Ann Hong at No. 2, 6-1, 6-1. Huynh downed Gwyneth Gozum at No. 3, 6-1, 6-3.
In doubles, Angulo and Silvio defeated Vanessa Lascon and Katrina Ngo at No. 1, 8-1. Thomasson and Chin shut out Emily Divin and Scarlett Spiller at No. 2, 8-0.
Piedmont then fell to the host Colts, 4-3. The teams split the singles with Huynh defeating Rachel Nguyen at No. 2, 6-3, 6-0 and Angulo outlasting Avery Poppleton at No. 4, 6-2, 5-7, 10-6. James Logan’s Riya Divekar beat Faith Chin at No. 1, 6-4, 6-1 and Lakshana Sivadharsan defeated Paige Chin at No. 3, 6-1, 6-0.
On Sept. 14, the Highlanders swept visiting Albany, 7-0. Faith Chin beat Erlina Ho at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-1. Huynh defeated Lucy Wu at No. 2, 6-3, 6-3. Leela Sivakumar routed Emilio Chen at No. 3, 6-0, 6-1. Angula outlasted Jasmine Liu at No. 4, 6-3, 6-7 (7), 10-1. Silvio and Emma Chan beat Chloe Han and Eira Lester at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, 7-6 (2). Thomasson and Mai Pham defeated Shira Kaplan and Bienaia Yonatan at No. 2, 6-0, 6-3. Layla Reed-Miguel and Amelia Oldrin downed Chloe Le Thery and Fiona Liu at No. 3, 6-2, 6-1
