The Piedmont High School cross country teams had a successful weekend at the De La Salle Invitational on Sept. 19. The girls team took 18th with 499 points while the boys finished 22nd with 584.
Viviane Oesterer finished 76th individually in a time of 21 minutes, 13.7 seconds over the three-mile course at Newhall Park in Concord, taking eight seconds off of her previous best on the course. Cora Brozowski Schrader was 82nd in 21:24.1. Nikita Gorelik was 96th in 21:45.3. Camille Hauser finished 120th in 22:55.7 with Annie Thornton 144th in 24:32.9.
Thornton improved her previous best on the Newhall Park course by a whopping 44 seconds. Davis won the team championship with 79 points while San Rafael’s Autumn Tanner winning the individual title in 17:13.7.
The Highlanders boys were led by Dresden Schulte-Sasse in 50th place in 17:06.9. Alex Schleuning was 99th in 17:45.1. Luca LaForte came home in 140th place in 18:32.0 followed by Blake Riff in 162nd place in 19:07.6. Rohan Seshan was close behind in 164th in 19:13.8.
Coach Steve Zirkelbach said the combined time of 91:45.4 was the second-fastest for a Piedmont boys team at the De La Salle meet.
Elias Thronson of Davis won the race in 14:55.7, helping his squad to the team championship with 78 points, just in front of Dublin (81).
