A man was reported to be rummaging through trash and recycling containers near Mountain and Blair avenues late on July 14. Police were dispatched to the area at 10:14 p.m. The suspect was located on Mountain, according to Piedmont Police Capt. Chris Monahan. The man said he was collecting trash and recycling. Monahan said he also told officers he was homeless and looking for clothing.
He was identified and found to be on probation in Alameda County for possession of stolen property and also had a bench warrant in San Francisco.
On July 15, a man possibly with a knife was reported breaking into a locker room on the campus of Piedmont High School, according to the police log. He was reportedly seen near the softball field and one call said he was throwing his hands in the air and said, “We gonna do something what’s the problem?” The police log described the man only as a Hispanic male wearing a dark blue shirt.
One of the reports told police they could see the handle of a knife.
Monahan said police never found the individual.
An abandoned vehicle was found on Pala Avenue on July 18. A gray 2018 Acura TLX was reported around 11:11 a.m. Police found the vehicle and a check revealed it had been reported stolen in San Francisco, according to Monahan.
The rear license plate was missing and all of the doors were locked, but Monahan said the driver’s door lock was severely damaged. The vehicle was towed.
A white Acura RDX was reported stolen on the morning of July 14. The victim reported they had parked the vehicle on York Drive around 9 p.m. the previous evening, according to Monahan. The victim found the vehicle missing at approximately 7:30 a.m. The vehicle has not been located, according to Monahan.
On July 15, a Honda Ridgeline Truck was reported stolen on Pala at 10:53 a.m. The victim reported the vehicle had been parked the night before at approximately 5:30 p.m. The vehicle was later recovered in Oakland.
Piedmont will celebrate National Night Out on Aug. 4 from 5-7 p.m. in Piedmont Park. National Night Out is an annual event designed to help neighbors meet and interact with their local police. Piedmont police and fire personnel will be set up in front of the Exedra fountain on Highland Avenue.
