Arguments for or against local measures appearing on the November 3, 2026 ballot must be submitted to the City Clerk’s Office by 4 p.m. on Monday, August 3, 2026.
One local measure will appear on Piedmont’s ballot: a proposal to increase the City’s Real Property Conveyance Tax, which is being retitled by this measure to “Real Property Transfer Tax” (“Transfer Tax”) from 1.3% to 1.75%.
Direct arguments are limited to 300 words. Under state law, arguments may be submitted by eligible voters, qualifying organizations, or City Councilmembers authorized by the Council. If more than one argument is submitted for the same position, the City Clerk will select one for publication according to the priority order established by state law.
Rebuttal Arguments for or against the measure must be submitted to the City Clerk’s Office by 4 p.m. on August 13, 2026. Rebuttal arguments are limited to 250 words. Submissions must include a completed Argument/Rebuttal Submission Form and be provided in final form as both a wet-signed hard copy and an electronic Word document. This form is also available at the City Clerk’s Office. Arguments remain confidential until the filing deadline.

Candidate filing deadline is August 7
Residents interested in running for one of three City Council seats or two Board of Education seats must file nomination documents in person by 5 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026.
If an eligible incumbent does not file for reelection, the nomination period for that office only will be extended through 5pm Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
