A brush fire in bushes outside a home on Oakmont Avenue has led to charges of arson against a relative of the property owner. Emergency services received multiple calls about a 10-foot tall brush fire beginning at 5:39 p.m. on June 8.
People were evacuated, according to the police log, which also said the fire was in bushes in front of the residence and did not touch the house. The log also reported embers were flying everywhere.
The fire was knocked down and the command was terminated within an hour of the first call.
Piedmont Police Capt. Chris Monahan said the relative was charged with arson.
An auto burglary was reported to have occurred on June 8 at 4:42 a.m. on Hampton Road. Entry to the vehicle was said to have been through a broken sun roof. The reported loss was $40 in cash and a Fastrak reader, according to Monahan. He said total damage, including the stolen items, is estimated to be $850. There is no information on the suspects or a potential suspect vehicle.
On June 6, a blue Honda Civic with one person inside was reported to have struck a building on Wildwood Avenue at approximately 4:26 a.m. The police log said the vehicle could be expected to have some damage to the left rear bumper. The log also said the vehicle might have hit a Dumpster.
The vehicle was gone when police arrived and there is no further information.
On June 10, silver Chrysler 300 was found parked and unoccupied near Rand Avenue in Oakland at 8:18 p.m. The vehicle had been reported stolen and was towed for the owner. No other information is known at this time.
