Jimmy Lagios looks for his next move in a season-opener game vs. Salesian on Aug. 30, 2025

Piedmont High School quarterback Jimmy Lagios has transferred to Monte Vista in Danville for his upcoming junior season. Lagios helped lead the Highlanders to the North Coast Section Division 7 championship game last fall.

“We’re going to be moving out there this summer,” Lagios said of his family. “I’m looking forward to it. So far it has been pretty good. I’ve made a few friends. They didn’t know who was going to be the quarterback (in the fall). They’ve been pretty welcoming to me.”

Lagios followed his older brother Markos in quarterbacking Piedmont. Jimmy stepped into the role as a sophomore and completed 147 of 280 passes for 2,114 yards with 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. The Highlanders went 8-5 and made it to an NCS final for the first time since winning the school’s only championship in 1976. Lagios was listed at 6-feet, 180 pounds. He said the Mustangs run a different offense than he ran at Piedmont.

“They’re more under center,” he said. “Piedmont’s very pass happy.”

The big change will come on the schedule. Monte Vista is part of the East Bay Athletic League, the toughest league in the NCS.

“The schedule is going to be harder,” Lagios said. “We play De La Salle, Marin Catholic, San Ramon Valley. I think it’ll be fun.”

The Mustangs will open at home against Marin Catholic on August 28. They will be at powerful Campolindo on September 11, host De La Salle on October 16 and conclude the season with their rivalry game at home against San Ramon Valley on November 6.

Monte Vista won the NCS Division 2 championship last year. The Mustangs finished 8-6 after losing to St. Ignatius in the California Interscholstic Federation Division 3AA regional playoffs. Senior quarterback Ian Ondricek has graduated.
