Softball | Piedmont ends season with NCS loss

The Piedmont High School softball team ended its season in the second round of the North Coast Section Division 6 playoffs with a 17-7 loss at third-seeded Willits on May 22. The game was shortened to five innings due to the mercy rule.

The Highlanders finished 13-11 on the season. The Wolverines advanced to the semifinals at No. 2 Healdsburg on May 27.

Piedmont got four runs in the top of the second to take a 4-1 lead. But Willits answered with three in the bottom half of the inning to tie the score. A six-run third gave the Wolverines control of the game.

The Highlanders did score three in the top of the fourth, but a four-run bottom half kept Willits in charge.

Talia Perl went 3 2/3 innings for Piedmont, allowing 14 runs (seven earned) on 12 hits and two walks. Edie Elmquist went the final inning, allowing three runs on three hits and five walks. Neither pitcher recorded a strikeout.

Lisa Arkelian went the distance for the Wolverines, allowing no earned runs with nine strikeouts. Willits was charged with five errors while the Highlanders were charged with nine.

Hannah Joerger went two for three for Piedmont. Rosemary Dickinson was one for three with a double and an RBI. Penelope Hopper was one for two with two RBI.

Addie Jones was three for four to lead  the Wolverines with three runs scored and two RBI. Ariana Vasquez was two for three with two RBI and two runs while Jazmarie Henson was two for four with two RBI.
