Piedmont wins at Hayward

The Piedmont High School softball team ended a three-game losing streak with a 25-12 win at Hayward on April 30.

A 10-run top of the sixth allowed the Highlanders to achieve the mercy rule. Piedmont also scored five runs apiece in the second, third and fourth innings.

Hannah Joerger had nine RBI in the game while going three for five with a double and three runs scored. Edie Elmquist had a huge day at the plate, going four for five with five runs scored and four RBI. She had a double among her hits. Kailee Talati was three for four with four runs scored and two RBI.

Talia Perl went the distance for the win, allowing seven earned runs on eight hits and six walks with one strikeout.

Seilala Puamau took the loss, going five-plus innings and allowing 22 runs (21 earned) on 15 hits and 13 walks with six strikeouts.

Gianna Cruz went three for three for the Farmers with three runs and two RBI. Jayda Hayes was two for two with three runs and two RBI. Puamau went two for three with an RBI and a run. Mia Veleztan was two for four with an RBI.

On April 29, Piedmont lost at Redwood Christian, 19-5 in a game shortened to five innings due to the mercy rule. Rosemary Dickinson was one for two for the Highlanders with two RBI. Her hit was a double. Joerger and Teah Suhr had single RBI for Piedmont.

Kate Goodson went three for three for the Eagles with three runs and two RBI. Julia Cook was three for four with three RBI and a run. Rachel Hendren was one for four with two RBI and two runs.

Angeline Dorris got the win, going three innings and allowing two runs (none earned) on two hits and five walks with two strikeouts. Perl went the distance again, allowing nine earned runs on 13 hits and six walks with three strikeouts.

The Highlanders conclude the regular season with games at home against San Lorenzo on May 6 and at Tennyson on May 8.
