The City of Piedmont’s proposed FY2026-27 budget is now available for review. The budget, adopted annually, serves as a major policy document and describes how Piedmont intends to finance its services and infrastructure in the coming year.
The FY2026-27 budget reflects a transition from major project delivery to long-term stewardship. Over the past several years, the City has advanced a large portfolio of housing policy work and completed an unprecedented number of capital improvements, including two of the largest, most complex projects in Piedmont’s history: the all-electric new Community Pool and the new 9-1-1 Dispatch Center.
In the year ahead, the work shifts to building on these accomplishments. A key priority will be securing a development partner for implementation of the Moraga Canyon Specific Plan. For new facilities, moving from launch to sustainable long-term operations means a focus on staffing, service models, managing costs, refining systems based on real-world use, and ensuring these major investments deliver their full potential to the community.
At the same time, the City workforce is going through a generational transition as longtime employees retire and new staff step into key roles. A major priority in the coming year will be integrating new leaders while maintaining the exceptional level of public service Piedmont is known for.
The City must also continue adapting to an increasingly complex regulatory environment, including state and federal mandates related to housing, infrastructure, accessibility, and sustainability that have impacts stretching across the breadth of City operations.
City Council public hearings scheduled in June
The City’s Budget Advisory and Financial Planning Committee met this week to review the proposed budget. As they do each year, the Committee will provide a letter to City Council with their findings and recommendations in advance of budget adoption.
The City Council will discuss the proposed budget at two public hearings in June:
