The Piedmont Recreation Department held its fifth annual Play Like a Girl+ Piedmont day at Witter Field and the new community pool, where aquatics athletes for the first time were able to demonstrate skills in the water.

Girls from 2-18 throughout the Bay Area tried their hand at sports from field hockey to flag football to roller derby at 31 interactive demo stations, with guidance from athletes and coaches. New sports this year include badminton, curling, diving, parkour, water polo, and adaptive skiing. The overcast day made for a chilly start, but did not hold anyone back from enjoying the chance to try something new.

With the new community pool now open, the participants also got a chance to watch divers, swimmers, and water polo players show off their sports. Five-time Olympic swimming gold medalist Dana Vollmer-Grant was able for the first time to demonstrate her sport in the water.
