Staff and customers are mourning the loss of a longtime Piedmont Grocery team member. The grocery store shared the news of Sarah B.’s death on its website and social media on May 1.
It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a long-time and beloved member of our Piedmont Grocery family. For twenty years, Sarah graced us with her smile and her kindness.
She was a skilled baker who would occasionally treat her fellow employees and even some customers to the fruits of her labors. Her Buche de Noel at the holidays was legendary. Sarah also loved to garden and could often be heard strategizing about which tomatoes she would plant that year with employees and customers alike.
Sarah was a devoted and supportive friend to all of us here at Piedmont Grocery. Her caring and generous spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
The organizers of a GoFundMe page created in April 2025 to support her through an illness said Sarah had worked at Piedmont Grocery for more than 15 years. A week after the news of her death reached the local community, staff and customers continued to express their sorrow. A memorial book displayed near the store registers was filled with condolences.
Grocery staff requested Sarah’s last name remain private. They said on Friday that a private memorial event for Sarah was planned this weekend for those close to her.
