I moved to Piedmont when I was seven years old. Before that, I spent my entire childhood in Montclair, where I attended Montclair Elementary for TK, kindergarten, and first grade. I had a wonderful experience at Montclair Elementary — I loved my teachers and made great memories. However, my parents were concerned about the middle school and high school options available to me. They wanted me to build friendships in elementary school that would last through high school. Since I had cousins in Piedmont who attended Beach Elementary, my parents decided it was best for us to move here and join its schools.
When I began second grade at Beach Elementary, I was warmly welcomed by some of the most supportive teachers I could imagine. I quickly made a lot of new friends, and I’m still close with many of them today.
Our move to Piedmont wasn’t just about finding friends and a sense of community; it was also about the exceptional education offered by the public schools. I have had amazing teachers every year, and I feel fortunate for the classes and resources available to us.
I know that Piedmont schools continue to thrive thanks to the community’s commitment to funding what truly matters. That’s why I strongly urge everyone to vote YES on Measure H. Without it, we risk losing 20% of our school funding, which is vital for our resources, teachers, and community. Please make your voice heard and vote YES!
