Letter to the Editor | Measure H essential to the student experience

I have been a part of PUSD since I started attending Havens in Kindergarten. The moment I stepped foot on Havens turf, I made some of the closest friends I still have today, ten years later. The unique and beautiful thing about PUSD is you’re a tight-knit community. I grew up with those people, I’ve known some of them since I was five years old. The Havens blacktop was the source of many scraped knees, heated basketball games, and some of my fondest memories. I still remember the Havens book fairs, which felt like the largest community event of the year for me. There were hundreds of books, all of my friends, and best of all, food trucks. It got young people excited about going to a book fair, which is a magical thing.

When I came to the middle school, I was a little worried about what that would do to my friendships. I had nothing to be worried about, as I just got to know more people who I’m still close with today. The community that I have been a part of in my decade at PUSD is incredibly important to me.

To the Piedmont community, whether you have a child in PUSD or you don’t, losing funding would be tragic. It would hinder the incredible community I was raised in, our resources, and our educators. Without Measure H, we’d lose about 20% of our funding. Without that integral funding, kids may not experience the magic of book fairs, the number of school sports we offer, and those little things that tie our community together. I would hate to see that happen. Please Vote Yes.
