The Piedmont High School girls lacrosse team saw its season come to an end in the second round of the West Alameda County Conference playoffs on April 29 with an 8-7 loss at Berkeley.
The Highlanders finished the season 7-11. Bids for the North Coast Section playoffs will be announced on May 3, but Piedmont coach Carlton Chan said the team’s record would likely not be good enough to earn a slot.
Peyton Watson scored three goals for the Highlanders. Sydney Latvala had two while Naftalia Segal and Hallie Burden had one apiece. Burden also had two assists.
Idra Elliott led the Yellowjackets with three goals. Ava Witchi had two.
The Highlanders won their first WACC tournament game over Washington, 19-0 on April 27. Jameson Sanford scored five goals to lead Piedmont. Zoya Schulze and Watson each had three goals and an assist. Hallie Burden had two goals and seven assists. Latvala and Dahlia Osman each scored twice. Sophie Pickett and Cory Minor each scored once.
On April 24, the Highlanders fell to Bishop O’Dowd, 8-7 at Witter Field in the regular season finale. Watson scored five goals to lead the offense. Latvala and Burden had the other goals. Becca Steinbauer, Cate Kepler and Mila Cavallo-Merrion each scored twice to lead the Dragons.
On April 21, Piedmont dropped a nonleague match at Acalanes, 14-9. Watson and Latvala scored three times apiece to lead the Highlanders. Schulze, Sanford and Osman each scored once. Osman, Segal and Elliott Hondorp had one goal each.
Grace Colaco and Charlotte Gellman had three goals and three assists each to lead the Dons. Emily Roberts scored four goals with an assist. Kelly Reidenbach had two goals. Christina Hageboeck and Ximena Espoinosa Angel had a goal and an assist each.
On April 16, Piedmont lost at home to Berkeley, 10-7. Watson and Latvala each scored three goals while Osman added one. Sabine Rosen led the Yellowjackets with four goals, Idra Elliott had three and Tasya Xiao had two. Whitney Borovicka had the other goal.
On April 15, the Highlanders defeated Northgate in a nonleague match at Witter Field, 11-6. Watson had nine goals to lead the way. Burden scored the other two. Mackenzie Brown had two goals and an assist to lead the Broncos. Yaiza Santana Ogden also had two goals. Madison Dutes had a goal and an assist while Gabbi Olds had the other
goal.
