The Piedmont Fire Department was alerted to a fire at 1111 Winsor Avenue at 1:32 a.m. on Friday, May 22, 2026 by residents calling 9-1-1.
Firefighters arrived at the scene within minutes and found the rear deck and attic on fire. The family of four were able to escape the home uninjured and were assisted to safety by Piedmont police.
Firefighters attacked the fire and searched the structure to ensure there were no additional occupants. The quick response allowed them to control the fire in the attic, containing the fire to the rear of the house. After the fire was declared under control at 2:07 a.m., firefighters spent several more hours clearing debris and salvaging valuables for the residents.
“We are all relieved the family escaped uninjured“ said Fire Chief Dave Brannigan. “This is a great example of how fire-resistant construction saves lives. The smoke and flames were slowed by a well-sealed exterior door with tempered, double-paned glass, which gave the family extra time to get out.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Officials have no comment on a possible cause as the investigation is ongoing.
