Boys tennis | Piedmont takes 1 of 3

Piedmont High School’s boys tennis team dropped two of three matches, falling to Lick-Wilmerding and Bishop O’Dowd before defeating Berkeley.

The Highlanders lost at Lick-Wilmerding on April 22, 5-2. Lucas Smolko beat Adam Kim in the No. 1 singles match for Piedmont, 6-0, 6-3. The No. 1 doubles team of Joey Assalian and Ben Davis defeated Lucas Wee and Kolby Rodgers, 6-1, 2-6, 10-6.

The Tigers Caden Lee downed Nate Welch at No. 2 singles, 7-6 (7), 6-0. Armaan Mishra beat Ari Moscovitz at No. 3, 6-2, 6-1. Kingston Vora handled Emilio Misra at No. 4, 6-1, 6-0.

Michael Kao and Mateo Monfiglio beat Maximo Miller and Hunter Fasteau at No. 2 doubles, 6-2, 6-3. Isaac Susal and Liam Reynolds downed Henry Van Den Bos and August Collins at No. 3, 6-0, 6-4.

On April 23, Bishop O’Dowd beat Piedmont, 6-1. Smolko scored the Highlanders lone point with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Marcello Sachelari at No. 1 singles. The Dragons’ Mateen Leclair defeated Welch at No. 2, 6-7 (3), 6-2, 6-0. Noal Amanuel outlasted Moscovitz at No. 3, 6-4, 4-6, 12-10. Dhilan Belue beat Misra at No. 4, 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles, Lucas Tanaka and Oliver Liao defeated Assalian and Davis at No. 1, 6-1, 6-3. James Hollins and Jack Gonzalez downed Fasteau and Carter Brookfield at No. 2, 6-1, 6-4. Nicolas Leduc and Suriyan Sokol beat Van Den Bos and Travers Kemp at No. 3, 6-0, 6-1.

On April 27, Piedmont edged visiting Berkeley, 4-3. The Highlanders swept the singles. Smolko smoked Mason Antin at No. 1, 6-1, 6-0. Welch beat Erich Zhang at No. 2, 6-2, 6-3. Moscovitz downed Max Hesterman at No. 3, 6-1, 7-6 (0). Misra defeated Cole Geurtsen at No. 4, 6-1, 6-3.

It was all Yellowjackets in the doubles, with Will Herndon and Julius Braun beating Assalian and Davis at No. 1, 6-2, 6-2. Dashiell Jackson and Henry Andreini defeated Kemp and Fasteau at No. 2, 6-1, 6-2. Evan Cobigo and Oscar Wallenstein downed Brookfield and Adam Quibelan, 6-1, 6-1.

Piedmont was scheduled to compete in the West Alameda County Conference tournament on May 1-2.
