Who’s that Good Dog?

A pensive Miles on the trail.

Family: Curran Family

Name: Miles

Age: 13 years old

Breed: Dachshund Terrier Mix

Adoption Story: It was November, just before Thanksgiving. Our kids were 2 and 4 and we were heading home from a kid’s birthday party. We decided to check out the dogs at the SPCA in Oakland. Miles was there with his brother who had just been adopted. They were puppies — 10 weeks old. We asked to meet the last puppy available to adopt, so they put us in a greeting room and brought him in. He was pretty small, probably 5 pounds. He ran up to the kids and just licked their faces all over and they fell in love with him. We brought him home that afternoon.

Likes: Miles likes Orville, our cat. He also likes his canine neighbor Chloe Hampton. Additionally, Miles likes dissecting any dog toy with a squeaker, and peeing in 20 different places during walks around the block. Lastly, Miles loves his people.

Dislikes: Miles doesn’t like when the mail person visits, nor does he like the UPS person, or the Amazon person.

Interesting facts: Since COVID, Miles has not been alone for more than 4 hours. He now has severe separation anxiety. To add, his favorite person (grandma) doesn’t live with us, but she is his favorite anyway. Lastly, we named him Miles after the local celebrity kid Miles Scott, who was “Batkid” in San Francisco for a day as his Make-a-Wish. We loved that story and decided to name him Miles.
