Piedmont High School’s softball team dropped a pair of West Alameda County Conference games, both by big scores.
On April 22, the Highlanders were on the wrong end of a 22-0 loss at home to Berkeley. Kajsa Benson had the only hit for Piedmont as the game ended after five innings due to the mercy rule. June Shaller and Estella Espinoza combined on the shutout for the Yellowjackets.
Talia Perl went three innings for the Highlanders and was charged with 14 runs (10 earned) on 11 hits with five walks and one strikeout. Edie Elmquist went two innings, allowing eight runs (four earned) on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
Shaller was three for four with four runs and three RBI. She had a double and a triple. Dags Sell was two for two with three RBI and a run scored to help lead Berkeley. Camil Babji Ross was two for three with two runs and two RBI. Ayshia Bell Vorkoeper was two for two with three runs and an RBI. Layla Turner was two for three with two runs and two RBI. Riley Pritchard was two for two with two runs and an RBI.
On April 24, Piedmont lost at San Leandro, 14-1 in a game also shortened to five innings due to the mercy rule. Hannah Joerger was three for three with an RBI for the Highlanders. Elmquist went two for three with a run scored. Perl took the loss, going four innings and allowing seven earned runs on nine hits with five walks and a strikeout.
Piedmont is now 9-8 on the season and will play at Redwood Christian on April 29 in a nonleague game.
