Monday, April 20: Volunteer appreciation reception  

City officials will honor outgoing Commission and Committee volunteers and the 2026 Betty C. Howard award recipients at the City’s annual Volunteer Appreciation reception next week.  

The event will also mark the return of the “Volunteer of the Year” award, last awarded in 2019. The revived tradition incorporates a new element – “Young Volunteer of the Year,” intended to highlight the contributions of the next generation of Piedmonters.

  • Julie Ortiz, Planning Commission 
  • Liz Lummis O’Neil, Public Safety Committee 
  • Jenny Feinberg, Recreation Commission 
  • Rebecca Posamentier, Recreation Commission 
  • Aamir Virani, Recreation Commission 
  • Hope Salzer, Alameda County Mosquito Abatement District 

Betty C. Howard Recreation Service Award 

  • Dick Carter (volunteer) 
  • Ivy Sandoval (staff) 

Volunteer of the Year and Young Volunteer of the Year honorees will be announced at the reception.
