Baseball | Piedmont finishes tourney with win

Piedmont High School’s baseball team concluded the Atascadero Easter Classic with a 12-4 win over Nipomo at Nipomo on April 10.

Ben Sorensen went four for four with five RBI and two runs scored to lead the Highlanders (8-8-2).

Piedmont scored four runs in the third and five in the fourth to take control of the game. Trailing 1-0 entering the third, the Highlanders loaded the bases. Sorensen then singled in a run with a second coming home on an error. A third run scored on a ground out and Sorensen came home on a wild pitch.

The Titans got a run back in the bottom of the inning, but Piedmont then broke the game open. The Highlanders again loaded the bases, this time on a hit by pitch, an error, and a single. Jack Meyjes then walked to force in a run. Sorensen followed by singling in two. Cyrus Emanuelson walked to force in another run and Enzo Ong singled in the final run of the inning.

Sorensen hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth to extend the lead to 10-2. Aiden Bell singled in a run in the fifth as well.

Jonah Cha-Foster scored four runs while going two for three for Piedmont. Bell went two for four. Massimo Mittone went the first five innings for the win, allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits. Cha-Foster went the final two, striking out one.

For Nipomo, Silveira Ethan went the first three-plus to take the loss, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on four hits and six walks with two strikeouts.

Beau Hageman went two for three with two runs and an RBI for Nipomo.

Piedmont returns to West Alameda County Conference play with a home-and-home with Bishop O’Dowd. The teams will play at Piedmont on April 15 (4 p.m.) and at Bishop O’Dowd on April 17 (7 p.m.).
