Boys lacrosse | Piedmont opens season 3-3

Piedmont High School’s boys lacrosse team is off to a strong start, splitting its first six matches.

The Highlanders opened the season on February 26, falling at Clayton Valley, 14-8. Timmy Kalamas scored four goals for Piedmont and Owen Curren scored twice. Landon Heppner and Milo Stevenson each scored one goal. Joel Frigard scored five goals for the Eagles. Jacob Hillesheim scored four times and Connor Hill had three goals. Wyatt Parker had two goals and three assists. Frigard and Ellis Brown each had two assists.

The game was tied 4-4 after the first quarter but Clayton Valley outscored the Highlanders 7-1 over the middle two periods.

On March 3, Piedmont defeated visiting Miramonte, 6-3. Kalamas led the way with three goals. Connor Fredericks had two and Patrick Brayer had one. E.J. Ho had two goals for the Matadors while Toby Montalban had one.

The Highlanders took a 2-0 lead in the first quarter but Miramonte got all three goals in the second quarter to lead 3-2 at halftime. Fredericks scored in the third quarter to put Piedmont up for good.

On March 5, the Highlanders defeated host Northgate, 18-6. Fredericks and Brayer each scored four goals. Kalamas had three and Curran and Ryan Graham had two apiece. Quentin Shafroth and Lukas Toth each scored one.

Evan Washam scored four times for the Broncos. Elijah Biesecker and Will Watson had the other goals.

Piedmont scored eight times in the first quarter and won handily.

On March 10, the Highlanders lost at home to Acalanes, 12-8. Fredericks scored three times and Stevenson netted two. Curran, Graham and Brayer each scored once.

Luke Dafferner and Caleb Mason had three goals for the Dons. Jackson Tseng and Jan Korzeniowski had two apiece. Corbin Gallegos and Curtis Sanders had single goals.

Acalanes had five goals in the first quarter and six in the third.

On March 12, Piedmont downed host Campolindo, 12-6. Ian Nguyen had four goals for the Highlanders. Jax Edward Thayer had two goals while Curran, Graham, Heppner, Fredericks, Toth and Kalamas each scored once. Kalamas added two assists.

On March 17, Piedmont fell 21-4 at San Ramon Valley. Kalamas had two goals with Gianluca Richmond and Patrick Brayer each scoring once.

The Wolves were led by Tom Navone’s five goals. Zayden Sembrat and Jake Ninekirk had three each. Ryan Jaoua, Callen Deguzman and Cole Scott each scored twice.

The Highlanders are next scheduled to play at Bishop O’Dowd on March 24.
