The Advanced Acting class is presenting the comedic drama “Eurydice” by Sarah Ruhl in the Alan Harvey Theater on Friday, March 6, and Saturday, March 7 at 7 p.m. each night.
“Eurydice” is a comedic drama that reimagines the classic myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, focusing on Eurydice’s journey through the Underworld. Reunited with her deceased Mother, Eurydice must grapple with forgotten memories of her past life while faced with a life-altering choice. With contemporary characters and plot twists, Eurydice is a fresh look at love and loss.
The play is directed by senior Amelia Addington, and the cast includes Yiyou Fang, Kirstin Fedor, Jack Herrlinger, Nico Kaltenecker, Sparrow Lieu, Lila Schwab, and Grette Willats.
Amelia has been excited to direct the show because of its creativity and poetic nature. “Its abstract storytelling and emotional depth allow both the cast and the audience to interpret the story in different and personal ways.”
With nearly 20 plays and a MacArthur genius grant to her name, author Sarah Ruhl is one of the most important American playwrights of our time. The Advanced Acting Class has previously produced her shows, “Dead Man’s Cell Phone” and “The Clean House”. “Eurydice” has been produced from high schools to Broadway, and it has been translated into 14 languages. In 2021, Ruhl adapted “Eurydice” into an Opera that ran during the New York Metropolitan Opera Season.
“Eurydice” is recommended for most audiences, though some material may not be suitable for younger audience members. This production explores themes of love, loss, memory, and the afterlife. It is always encouraged that audiences use their best judgment based on the show’s themes and the child’s age and maturity level. Contact producer Kimberly Taylor with any questions.
