In a talk for the Piedmont Center for the Arts on Feb. 12, Sacha Grippando GG, AAA, will explore the ways jewelry is used to tell a story in the visual arts, from old masters paintings to contemporary film and TV.
Grippando says:
I have been fascinated lately by all the fabulous jewels and watches that keep popping up in tv and movies. I thought it would be fun to delve a little deeper into this subject and find out the history and relevance of why these accessories have been included so prominently in paintings, sculpture, movies and tv. I will analyze works of art, ranging from paintings by old masters to modern and contemporary works. The discussion will also cover examples from popular culture, including films and tv shows like “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” ,the James Bond movies, “Crazy Rich Asians”, “Ocean’s 8”, “The White Lotus”, the newest adaptation of “Frankenstein” on Netflix and the upcoming movie “Wuthering Heights.”
The lecture will run from 6:30 p.m. – 7:45 p.m on Thursday, Feb. 12. Doors open at 6pm. Beverages and light snacks will be served. Suggested donation of $20.
