Piedmont’s City Council honored departing city attorney Michelle Kenyon with a proclamation recognizing her 15 years of service to the city at their Monday night meeting. In addition to current councilmembers, former mayors Bob McBain, Teddy Gray King and Judge Margaret Fujioka, along with former city administrators Paul Benoit and Sara Lillevand and former city clerk John Tulloch and current Planning Director Kevin Jackson lined up to sing Kenyon’s praises at her final meeting. (Former Mayor Jen Cavenaugh was not present but sent remarks by email.)

Kenyon, who worked for four cities in California in addition to Piedmont (Rohnert Park, Calistoga, Pacifica, Moraga), was lauded for her steady hand and integrity as she guided the city through the COVID emergency response, the Housing Element, Moraga Canyon Specific Plan, Measure UU pool bond, and other municipal projects.

“I loved being a city attorney for Piedmont,” said Kenyon. “One of the reasons is because this is a community that cares. This city has more volunteers, donations than any other city I’ve worked with…you have some of the best staff and city managers… It has truly been my pleasure to serve the city of Piedmont,” she said.

The Council next approved the appointment of Deepa Sharma — who was mentored by Kenyon and has served as the Assistant City Attorney for Piedmont since 2020 — as her replacement.
