On Nov. 10, 2025, Piedmont Mayor Betsy Smegal Andersen read out a City of Piedmont proclamation recognizing Dec. 10, 2025 as Piedmont Education Foundation Day.
PEF will celebrate Piedmont Education Foundation Day and its 50th anniversary by hosting an open house at 401 Highland Avenue on Dec. 10 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a special all-ages “happy hour” from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The community is invited to stop by, learn about PEF’s history, meet the staff and board members, purchase See’s Candies for the holidays, and make their Giving Campaign donation.
WHEREAS, The Piedmont Educational Foundation (PEF) was officially established on December 10, 1975 with the mission to “Provide new and improved educational opportunities” for students in the Piedmont Unified School District; and
WHEREAS, the vision of a sustained funding stream for Piedmont schools led the District to place the first parcel tax measure on the ballot in 1985, and with PEF at the helm of the campaign, the measure passed by an impressive 76 percent; and
WHEREAS, in 1989, PEF further strengthened its commitment to the long-term future of Piedmont schools by establishing an endowment to provide additional sustained funding;
WHEREAS, PEF has demonstrated its dedication to the broader community by assisting 20 other school support organizations with fundraising and marketing efforts; and
WHEREAS, PEF fosters a sense of community engagement through annual events, including the beloved Harvest Festival carnival and the Spring Fling gala; and
WHEREAS, for half a century, the Piedmont Educational Foundation has provided sustained financial support to Piedmont schools through fundraising and community engagement, granting over $60 million to enrich the educational experiences of thousands of students; and
WHEREAS, we honor the countless volunteers, donors, and community members who have contributed to PEF’s success and encourage all citizens to join in celebrating this significant milestone.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Betsy Smegal Andersen, Mayor of the City of Piedmont, do hereby recognize and proclaim December 10, 2025, as
PIEDMONT EDUCATION FOUNDATION DAY
in honor of its 50th Anniversary, and express deep appreciation for its outstanding contributions to education and to the betterment of our community.
