Boys soccer | Piedmont gets off to slow start

The Piedmont High School boys soccer team got off to a slow start, winning one of its first five
games.

The Highlanders opened the season on Dec. 3 with a 3-2 loss at Skyline. Robert Pinella and Henry Devan had the goals for Piedmont.

On Dec. 5, the Highlanders lost 5-0 at Newark Memorial. Andrew Sousa had two for the Cougars. Juan Valdovinos had a goal and an assist. Daniel Macias and Yashpaul Assi also had goals. Adrian Rodriguez had two assists while Roger Salazar added one assist.

On Dec. 10, Piedmont lost at Arroyo, 2-0.

On Dec. 12, the Highlanders hammered visiting San Lorenzo, 8-0. Devan and Roman Ahearn each had two goals for Piedmont. Benjamin Gerber had a goal and an assist. Pinella, Jackson Van-Kleeck and Travers Kemp each had a goal for the Highlanders. Eli Dao-Hoang and Matias Shahid each had two assists.

On Dec. 16, Piedmont lost 4-0 at Clayton Valley. Rohman Mahmood had a hat trick for the Eagles. Kristian Ortiz Estrada had the other goal for Clayton Valley. Jacob Asselin had two assists and Bahram Qamari and Giovanni Martinez-Negrete each had one.

Piedmont is scheduled to host Tennyson on Dec. 19. The Highlanders are then off until Jan. 7, when they will host Chico.
