Piedmont High School’s boys basketball team won its first game against Campolindo on Dec. 20, pulling out a 52-48 win at Campolindo. According to Highlanders coach Ben Spencer, it’s the first time in seven meetings Piedmont has beaten the Cougars.
Dillon Casey scored 19 points to lead the way for the Highlanders. Beach Lorin had 12 points and P.J. Brayer added 11. Lucian Fong Ring scored seven points including four key free throws late in the fourth quarter.
“Our defense and rebounding won us the game tonight,” Spencer said. “It has been a few years since I could say that.”
Spencer said he was proud of everyone on the team.
“Beach Lorin also played a terrific game at both ends of the court,” Spencer said. “Cash Panico’s energy and defense helped us secure the W. His toughness rubs off on everyone else.”
Aiden Wong and Will Farrington each scored 10 points to lead Campolindo.
The Highlanders got out to a 20-14 lead after one quarter. It was 32-27 at halftime and 42-35 after three.
Campolindo had beaten Piedmont 51-47 at the Acalanes tournament on Dec. 13. The teams have faced each other annually since the 2020-21 season.
The Highlanders played Emerald-Dublin on Dec. 23. They will be off until a Jan. 3 game at home against McKinleyville.
