More than two thousand runners and walkers took to Piedmont’s streets for the city’s annual 5K Turkey Trot on Thursday morning. Hazy sunshine and chilly temperatures greeted the 2,400 registered participants of all ages who showed up for the 8:30 a.m. start.
PHS alum Jack Stein (21) took first place for the men at 15:24, breaking his own course record. Julia Sizek (34) of Sacramento placed first for the women. (Find a full breakdown of race results HERE.)

Event organizer Sydney Proctor said around 125 volunteers — a combination of PHS students and athletes, parents, and community members — helped to keep the event on track. Proctor said the Wednesday bib pick-up station has turned into an unofficial giving-back opportunity for the community, with Dress Best for Less, the East Bay Children’s Book Project, and others accepting donations that day. The Piedmont Service Crew passed out gallons of free hot chocolate and coffee to race day participants.
